Northern IllinoisComEd serves Northbrook and the rest of Cook County’s North Shore. New solar customers choose whether to receive their net metering credit in kWh or as a monetary credit, a decision made at the time of application. New systems here are also eligible for a one-time Solar Generation Rebate of $300 per kilowatt of installed generating capacity (smart inverter required, capped at systems up to 5,000 kW), plus a separate Battery Storage Rebate of $300 per kilowatt-hour (requires ComEd’s Rate BESH, cannot combine with Community Solar). It’s not recurring; ComEd’s stated timeline is roughly 90 days after your system is energized.
Since January 1, 2025, new ComEd solar customers are placed on supply-only crediting rather than legacy full-retail net metering; the credit offsets only the Supply portion of your bill, not delivery charges and taxes. If your Northbrook-area system was installed and interconnected before December 31, 2024, you keep full legacy net metering for that system’s life, up to 30 years.
