Northern IllinoisComEd, a subsidiary of Exelon, serves Evanston and most of northern Illinois, including Chicago and the rest of Cook County. Since January 1, 2025, new ComEd solar customers are automatically placed on net billing rather than legacy full-retail net metering: your system’s exported power credits only the Supply, or generation, portion of your bill, not delivery charges. New systems with a qualifying smart inverter are also eligible for a one-time Distributed Generation rebate of $300 per kilowatt of installed capacity, paid roughly 90 days after energization, plus a separate $300 per kilowatt-hour rebate for battery storage tied to enrollment in ComEd’s hourly pricing (Rate BESH). Neither rebate is recurring, and each is available only once per system; the battery rebate cannot be combined with Community Solar participation.
